THE PROCESS
I have a small studio where I look out over the trees and see the sun rise each day. The rising sun is a beautiful promise of a new beginning. This is how I feel about the clay too...it has a new beginning as a piece of art that I have the privilege of forming to bring pleasure and beauty to you.
As I pull clay from its bag, I am always inspired by a scripture of faith, hope and love. Hand coiling begins and forms into a unique piece. Many of my pieces are pit, saggar, or raku fired to achieve smoky rings on and around its body. In December 2024-January 2025, I was privileged to I fire 13 of my porcelain, lizella, or mixture of the two clays in the inaugural firing of an anagama built right here in the heart of the City of St. Augustine. There were 686 pieces of clay work in the 80-hour wood firing and the results were impressive indeed. Because wood firing in the anagama is a team effort, this process will not be utilized as often as pit firing, in which I can do on my own, at any time. I also recently opened my work up to accepting commissions to use your horses hair on a hand-built piece. To inquire about commissions, please read the Commissions page and then contact me.
